This marks denotes a long vowel, almost a whole two beats.

This is something Koreans don't necessarily recognize that they do, but foreigners pick it up quite quickly.

I'll try to mark words that obviously have it, although you'll just have to listen for it and recognize it when you hear it.

Examples:

  • : Long vowel means "radish" while short vowel means "absent" or "not".
  • : Long vowel means "dog" while short vowel means the counter, the ending, the contraction, etc...
