하나님
From Jonathan Gardner's Korean Notebook
하나님 (Noun): God
This is the preferred word for God among protestants.
You can think of this as "하나" (one) + "N + 님" (honorific), or "The One".
This is similar to another word, "하느님". That other word means "God of Heaven" or simply "God". Catholics like to use it. So do the folk religionists, the sword dancers and false prophets. Try not to get the two confused because it is important to a lot of people.
The LDS word for God is more commonly "하늘에 계신 아버님" (Heavenly Father) or "하나님 아버님" (God the Father". We like to emphasize His family relationship with use rather than His dominance over us.
