Attached to a 동사 (Action Verb) stem, shows intention (의도) or desire (욕망).

This is commonly followed simply by 하다, although it can be followed by anything.

• 목적을 [[달성]하고자 열심히 노력하다

to try hard to achieve one's goals

• 모임을 하고자 합니다.

(Someone) intends to have a meeting.
