믿는 도끼에 발등 찍힌다
From Jonathan Gardner's Korean Notebook
(속담) Your instep is cut by the ax you trust.
This is said when you take injury from the betrayal of someone you trusted.
I imagine anyone who's used an ax extensively would learn to trust certain axes because they are more reliable than others. Normally, you are quite cautious when throwing an ax around in your chores, because at any moment the handle could break or the head work its way off. In this case, you feel kind of stupid because you didn't think this ax, of all the axes you have, would be the one to break off and end up in your foot.
The moral of the story is not to trust axes, or be sure you have a good reason to trust an ax before you use it recklessly.
