믿다
From Jonathan Gardner's Korean Notebook
- (타동사) to believe, to have faith in
- To think that something is a certain way, without a doubt.
- To take heart and think of something as strong (enough).
- To receive and do accordingly.
Notes
- The first is to believe in words, or something someone said. In this sense, it simply means, "to think that something is true."
- The second sense is to trust in the capability of something to do something for you. Like, "I believe I am strong enough to lift that bag of rice."
- The third sense is probably better translated as "to have faith in" in English. Here, the connotation of action is present. For the third sense, you believe in churches, religions, or God, or something similar. This means you accept what they tell you, and do it.
