타동사
From Jonathan Gardner's Korean Notebook
Template:명사 Transitive Verb
These are 동사 (Action Verbs) that require an object to act upon, usually marked with the object article 를.을. Of course, often the object is missing and implied.
Examples:
- 쓰다 (to use)
- 먹다 (to eat)
- 주다 Template:주다
Passive Form
These usually have a passive form (피동사), where the object becomes the subject and is acted upon by some actor. This is usually just the stem + 이다 or stem + 히다. In English, we simply change "to X" to "to be X-ed". Note that 이다 is the verb "to be".
Examples:
Of course, you can sometimes change these transitive verbs into the causative form with a similar change. So you have to know your verbs.
Examples:
- 먹이다 (to feed, to cause to eat)
